Only about 1 percent of participation was in online slots and instant win games, which have certifiably better odds than the activity with the most participation, which was National lottery draws with nearly one in three people participating. The least “popular” betting mode was spread betting with about .2 percent of the populace taking part.

When the National lottery is again removed from the equation we see that of 61% responding to a UKGC omnibus survey by Populus, the age group most likely to bet was 45-54 year-olds at 15%, followed by a tie at 13% by 25-34, and 35-44 year-olds. Perhaps most interesting, and contrary to what many portray about younger gamblers, of those identified as “low risk” based on gambling participation in the 4 weeks previous  to the surveys – the number of low risk gamblers in the 18-24 age group was twice as high as the 45-54 year-old respondents, who were the second least-likely to exhibit risky behaviours.

The World Poker Tour headed to Niagara Falls for their most recent tour stop, with the Fallsview Casino Resort hosting the poker action.  The schedule had only four events, with the most anticipated being the Main Event. Taking place from February 10^th until the 12^th, the Main Event had a buy-in of C$5,000 with 517 players competing. A prize pool of C$2,337,803 was created, with poker pro Mike Leah claiming the win, his first-ever WPT title.

According to the WPT, during the final day of the poker event, 20 players would return to the felt to duke it out for the title win. It would not take long before the final table was reached, with only six players left in the competition. Eventually, the final table would have only Mike Leah and Ryan Yu remaining. The two would compete in heads-up play, with Yu holding the chip lead.

Despite Yu having the lead, it would not take long before Leah would overtake his fellow poker pro to take the chip lead, with the final hand going down to give Leah the title win. On the final hand, Leah’s 9-5 would hold up against Yu’s J-8 as a 5 on the river secured the win for the pro, sending Yu home in second place.
